What is it?

Instructions:  Read each sentence and state whether the underlined word is being used as a noun, verb, or adjective.

EXAMPLE:  Michelle braided her long black hair.  braided  = verb
                        Michelle had a long braid.   braid  = noun
                        Michelle braided hair is pretty.  braided = adjective
  1. The monkey's tail  is very long.
  2. Jessica wants blue paint for her bedroom.
  3. The prisoners were detained at the prison.
  4. Joel has gained 2 pounds.
  5. The ketchup stain on my shirt won't come out.
  6. The pain will not go away.
  7. We will drive on the main road.
  8. Hail from the sky.
  9. Will you paint that wall?
  10. We stayed at a quaint hotel.
  11. There is a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.
  12. The police car was tailing the crooks.
  13. The box contains a surprise.
  14. I heard the daily news report on the radio.
  15. The river is tainted by the toxic waste from the factories.
  16. I took a pain reliever for my headache.
